My review of IX can be summarized by "if they promised it, and it works when you sign up, it will work, otherwise you are SOL." I will say that the main reason I stay is the free dedicated IPs. You cannot beat their price on that. If that is what you are looking for then this is your cheapest option, and I say that after having price shopped extensively for years and have never found anything close. Another thing is HSphere. I used CPanel for years and I will never go back. HSphere is so much more powerful and I adore it. Don't register your domain with them, though, because now they charge $20/yr for them!! Like Yahoo with a ridiculous price. Shady. I started hosting with IX in 2006. Things were quite a bit different with them then, the $4/mo hosting was price locked. Now you only get the $4/mo for your first 2-3 years then you have to pay $7/mo. I signed up when the lowest plan came with 2 IPs and at some point they switched to only 1 IP so I somehow got my price raised to $6/mo, but it is still lower than their current cheapest plan so it is okay with me. To get any new features they advertise, you not only have to move servers (downtime), but you have to create a new account and thus change your username, so all of your scripts have to be changed. I was willing to do this once in 2007 to get PHP5 but I haven't been willing to do it since then to get Ruby. They recently started making all error pages have ads unless you have them personalized. Except personalizing 404 pages requires doing some above and beyond htaccess stuff with modrewrite instead of just errordocument. They are nice enough to provide it for you when you put in a help ticket. They had some serious problems with htaccess injections about a year ago. I use mine religiously so I noticed immediately every time and managed to get them fixed but when they didn't understand the problem they originally blamed the customers saying we had spyware on our computers or something. Then they wised up and stopped doing that and ran nightly scripts to get rid of corrupted htaccess files. I haven't had problems with that in a year. Honestly, it is a top 10 hosting company and stuff like that is bound to happen. I had wordpress installed for the first time ever and that was what I got, so I uninstalled it and then the problems stopped. Mysql is so easy to hack imho. I had some downtime problems maybe 2 years ago but now I don't have any. I think their server move to Ohio really helped in that department. There were times when FTP would not work because someone was using up way too much space on the shared server and it kept saying it was "out of space" but they fixed that after a few months... I will also say that I do not use mysql so I cannot say anything about the supposed downtime related to that. I use Perl and the infamous Greymatter software banned on so many hosts and IX has no problems with it (I do disable comments and have my blog password protected so I think that helps). I also don't use their email but I always got a lot of spam when I used to do so. With gmail now it doesn't even matter. You can also set up gmail with your domain through google apps so email and webhosting is kind of irrelevant. All in all the site works well for non-crucial sites. I host all of my friends who know nothing about web hosting and don't need anything (not even PHP, just static content) and I think you could really get a great price if you charged people even $1/mo or went into it splitting costs. Because you have unlimited domains, space, bandwidth, subdomains, ftp, email, etc, it's really easy to host other people you know. Review Added on: 2009-12-27 |

We have had a site with ixwebhosting for about five years now. Overall they have been good. I have used godaddy.com and globat. godaddy had email issues for me, although i've never heard anybody else complain about this--so i don't plan to go back to godaddy. globat (which is a top rated host) is always pushing us and forcing us to buy additional services we don't need--they even take the money by force when we're not looking. ixwebhosting on the other hand has been good overall. we had two separate occasions when the servers got overloaded and they took our site down. for a while they had support done from india which was awful because the customer service reps really didn't care if we lived or died. now their support is back in the good old usa and they have a pretty good system for customers to rate their experience with their cs reps. the only issue i have with ixwebhosting is that those people are intentionally putting their own ads on our 404 pages. sometimes the ads are inappropriate for our site. we complained to them and spent hours configuring our own custom 404 pages but ixwebhosting is continuing to forward to their own 404 pages. makes me angry enough to leave but it's hard to find another host that's as good. probably i will leave in the next couple of years. otherwise they are really pretty good, and their american cs reps are really pretty knowledgeable--sometimes surprisingly so--and helpful. Ixwebhosting is not reliable in terms of backups even though live chat support is relatively good. Here is copy of live support from ixwebhosting: Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond. Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Kirill Skripka' Kirill Skripka: Hello, my name is Kirill. There is possibility, that our administrators will provide you links to download your files. you: ok when you provide links for download Kirill Skripka: First of all I cant promise you that our administrators will provide it for you,You need to ask for backups first. Then you will receive answer. Please update your ticket with request of backups and wait for reply to your ticket you: How long it takes to provide links for updates. We paid for hosting and I admit that one of our administrators violated TOS but we still your client because we payed for two year hosting beforehand so please feel responsibility to provide at least download links you: as soon as possible you: Please provide statement in TOS where is written about permanent disabling account Kirill Skripka: Please update ticket. I really regret that I purchased hosting plan from your company. Review Added on: 2009-06-04 |

I have 2 accounts with IXWEBHOSTING. On one, Im totally sold. No downtime, no lags, no trojans, hacks, or support issues. On the other, Im bailing out. Huge server issues, ridiculous mySQL read times, unbelievably bad downtime with pathetic feedback from support. Clearly they have some problems on some of their servers and not on others. All these problems began when they expanded and months after I opened a second account. It's bad enough that I must bail my new account with its 6 webs because my clients cannot get a good enough connection to update content. IT's that bad, and every single day. My honest review on IX![]() |

I personally recommened IX Web Hosting which I am using at present. IX doesn't pay me a dime, I'd like to share with you an honest review on IX. After using countless web hosting services, I found there was no big differnce between the top hosing providers of US. Maybe the top three got proud to overvalue themselves. What they do is just raise the fee year by year. You have to pay many extra fees for this and that. While for me, a not rich guy, I want the hosting service with fair price & nice bonus feature to add up to the total value of the price. I wrote an honest review with 6 advantages of IX over other providers based on my own experience at the url above.Visit my site to see detailed information yourself. Review Added on: 2009-05-06 |

Virus and Trojan Infection!![]() |

Besides taking my site off-line whenever I'd get a little busy (but I never used up all my alloted bandwidth or GB allowance on my account at all) all the time, I've had problems with security. The customer service phone wait is like 25 minutes most of the time also. :( But.... a few months ago, I had my site hacked into and when you visited it, it went to a fake Virus ad site. A week ago, everytime I visited I'd get told I had the JS/Xilos virus. Then other visitors were writing to me and told that they got a virus alert for JS/Xilos or for the Trojan Win32/Cinject.B whenever they came to my site. Fortunately, I never got the Trojan alert, but I wasn't going to stick around. I just moved my site to a new host and ...Wha-Lah! No more virus alerts. I think IX WebHosting has serious issues when it comes to keeping the sites they host secure from virus and trojan attacks. Review Added on: 2009-02-25 |

If you consider hosting with IXwebhosting ask yourself the following questions: Do you mind if: - your site goes down almost everyday - your site is so slow, it may take up to 20 sec for a joomla or subdreamer page to load - you are being pulled off by outsourced tech support that is slow and denies everything (no the server is fast, your site is not down) If the answer is no, then go with ixwebhosting. If you are looking for a reliable host, go elsewhere. Review Added on: 2009-01-26 |
